Riesling

Known as the “Noble King of German vineyards”, this variety is now grown in many wine regions around the world and is one of the world's fastest growing varieties. With a history dating back to the 15th Century, this variety was first documented as being grown in the Rheingau region of Germany. This variety does exceptionally well in cooler climates but is also grown in warmer climates around the world. Here in Ontario, it is the most planted white vinifera vine. There are several reasons to love Riesling, it is evocative, versatile, food friendly, easy drinking and age worthy. Wines made from this variety are quite unlike other white varieties. It is generally light in alcohol, refreshingly high in natural acidity, is exceptionally good at expressing terroir and capable at aging for decades in bottle. Riesling comes in a mouth-watering array of taste profiles, ranging from bone dry to medium sweet to Icewine, offering a pleasing taste for every palate.

Common profile characteristics are citrus, green apple, peach and beautiful minerality. With bottle aging Riesling will develop more concentration and complexity with a beautiful petrol nuance.
