#Job Posting - Assistant Supervisor – Golf Property

Rockway Vineyards Golf Club is looking for an assistant golf course maintenance superintendent for the 2024 golf season.

Rockway Vineyards Golf Club was established 1991 just outside of the city St Catharines nestled in the Niagara escarpment as an 18-hole championship golf course with a restaurant.  We are looking for an honest hard-working, hands-on individual who takes pride in their work, brings a positive attitude, good communication skills and the desire to continue to improve their skills.

Over the next two years we will take on projects to repair bunkers, level tees, improve drainage and other course improvement opportunities that have been identified.

This position is seasonally based for the golf property. The successful candidate will be willing to work 5-6 days a week including weekends and holiday mornings during the golf season. There will be a three-month probation period for the successful candidate. The wage will be dependent on abilities and experience – between $23 to $25 per hour. 

* We will only be considering those with Turfgrass Management courses or experience in golf course operations for this role.

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will be responsible for the maintenance, operation and upkeep of the golf course property.

Qualifications:

  • Education in Turfgrass management or relatable field or considerable practical experience in the industry.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Proof of valid pesticide training and certification.
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM) certified or willing to obtain.
  • Understanding of and experience with golf equipment including but not limited to compact tractor operations, set up, maintenance.
  • Mechanical knowledge of the equipment is an asset.
  • Knowledge of manual irrigation systems and repairs. Monitor/manage water use.
  • Flexible to work weekdays, weekends and holidays at discretionary hours (Approx mid-March through mid-November).
  • Quality verbal communication skills. Strong written communication skills are an asset.
  • Train and coach employees in equipment and job tasks.
  • Assist the team during course setup to ensure the course meets the expectations of its members for the days play.
  • Punctual and possesses strong organizational skills.
  • Building positive relationships with staff.
  • Knowledge of the game of golf and the importance of consistent course setup.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hands on person to oversee and maintain daily golf course operations and manage other projects (aerating, irrigation, bunker care and more).
  • Input on hiring grounds crew members.
  • Maintain records for IPM and Irrigation.
  • Train staff on machinery to ensure safe operation and assign daily tasks.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of small and large equipment including mowers, aerators, sprayers, utility vehicles and turf equipment.
  • Calibrate fertilizer spreaders and sprayer; apply chemical and fertilizer when required.
  • Oversee maintenance and care of playing conditions.
  • Daily mowing of greens, tees, fairways and rough as required.
